FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at auditions?

You will learn a short dance routine and then perform it. Don't worry. You will have more than enough time to practice and memorize it. You will also have a short (very informal) interview so that we can get to know you better.

Is there an age restriction?

Yes. We ask that our auditionees be 18 years or older for liability reasons.

Do I need to bring my own solo peice?

No. However, if you have a solo peice (or freestyle dance) that you would like to share as part of your audition, we highly encourage you to do so, especially if it is a peice that you have choreographed yourself.

Do I have to be a Christian?

No. However, you must respect Eight Count's eight-word mission statement: "To glorify God through the art of dance." In short, everything we do, whether it be practice or perform, is founded on this philosophy: "We are more than a dance troupe. We are a ministry. We are a community of believers who, through the gospel of Jesus Christ, desire to bring hope to the hopeless, life to the lifeless, and glory unto God through the art of dance."

Do I have to be a member of Great Exchange Church (GRX)?

No. Due to the lack of dance ministries in the area, we do allow non-GRX members to be part of the ministry. However, please note that if you make the team, you will be automatically associated with GRX, recieve GRX emails, and so forth.

What is your practice schedule?

Every Sunday @ 7:30pm
Every Tuesday @ 7:30pm
Location: Santa Clara, CA

How long does your season last?

About 8 months.

If I was in Eight Count last year, do I have to try out again?

No.

If I was in Eight Count two or more years ago, do I have to try out again?

Yes. Because of the ever changing nature of our ministry, we ask older alumni to try-out again if they are interested in rejoining the ministry.

What type of dancing do you do?

We have done everything from hip-hop, step/stomp, breakdancing, modern, jazz, lyrical, body worship, and more. We've even done some wushu. However, we have primarily been focusing on hip-hop. We want to get more and more involved with the local Bay Area hip-hop dance community.
